Fiona MacKay Young has been designing clothes, sewing, painting and involved in a wide variety of crafts and writing projects for most of her life. The grand daughter of a clothing designer and seamstress, at the age of 12, as soon as she showed a glimmer of interest in clothes, her grandmother took her under her wing and taught her everything she knew about designing clothes, fabrics and sewing. As Fiona recalls it, the first thing her grandmother would do upon seeing a new creation of Fiona’s, was to check the inside. If the inside was not at neatly and tidily finished off as the outside, she was it trouble! From there Fiona trained in Fashion Design, Sewing and Fashion Illustration. Later she took classes in traditional silk painting, but after a while opted for the quicker methods as described in this book. At one point, Fiona and a business partner ran a silk painting business under the name of F & S Designs, producing hand colored silk scarves and shirts. This book is a result of Fiona’s love for creating original, one-of-a-kind garments, and her enjoyment of unique color coloring and design. Finding that less and less of people around her were involved in sewing, she decided to write a book that would make it easy for anyone to make their own beautiful, fashionable and extremely wearable clothes. A native of Scotland, Fiona currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Fiona welcomes feedback on the book and can be reached at fionamackayyoung@shaw.ca
